Introduction

Pathani is a variety of saree. This is hand woven silk saree with rich, gorgeous zari (gold thread) pallu and border which is characterized by borders of an oblique square design, and a Pallu with a peacock design and Parrots design, Lotus motifs are used in pallu and sometimes on the border. Plain as well as spotted designs are available. The Paithani saree is known all over the world over for its uniqueness.

Paithani name received from paithan town located in Aurangabad district, Maharashtra state, Marathwada region they are woven by hand. Made from very fine silk. Pathani also called by queen of saree.

History

Maharashtra is the home of the most celebrated textile’s the paithani, gold embroidered zari saree with its wonderful designs and woven borders. The art is more than 2000 years old developed in small town located in Aurangabad district, Maharashtra state, Marathwada region. It is believed that the Nizam of Hyderabad was also attracted to the Paithani.

Raw Material used

Material used for paithani is Silk yarn, Zari and colours. Another major raw used in the production of Paithani Silk Saree is ‘Zari’. In the olden days the zari was drawn from pure gold, but today silver is replaced for gold, thus making the Paithanis more affordable to medium class. Three types of zari is mostly used for border, butti and Pallu.

The darker shades of tones of red, green, blue, yellow are more popular.

Pathani saree classification

Bangadi Mor: “bangadi” means bangle and “mor” means peacock. So bangadi mor means a peacock in a bangle or in a bangle shape. woven onto the pallu and the design sometimes having a single dancing peacock.

Pallu:- It contains exclusive abstract colourful Peacock with beautiful feathers weaved with zari and colourful threads. Body:-it has beautiful abstract emboss resham butta which makes saree elegant. Border:- it contains one side big plain satin gold zari border. Blouse:- Unstiched, it contains a small mofit desgin with zari border.

Parrot Green Paithani
